A 4-year-old girl was rescued safely and a man was arrested on Wednesday more than two weeks after the girl was allegedly abducted from her family tent on the west coast of Australia, police said.

Police found Cleo Smith in a house in the coastal town of Carnarvon, and a 36-year-old man was detained in a holding cell this morning, police said.

The girl was reunited with her mother Ellie Smith and stepfather Jake Gliddon shortly after her rescue. "Our family is perfect again," my mother told social media.

"Cleo is alive," said Western Australian Deputy Commissioner of Police Col. Blanch.

“One of the officers hugged him and asked:‘ What is your name? ’He said:‘ My name is Cleo, ’” added Blanch.

It is unclear whether the Australian $ 1 million ($ 743,000) prize was awarded five days after his disappearance led police to him.

Cleo's family lives in Carnarvon, a community of 5,000 people, and intelligence scientists have inspected the exterior of their home to find evidence that the attacker had stabbed Cleo and tried to break into the house.

The girl disappeared with her sleeping bag on the second day of a family trip at Blowholes Campground, 47 kilometers north of Carnarvon on October 16th.

Cleo and her younger sister were in a separate tent room with their parents. Police suspect she was abducted because the zipper of the tent flap was lifted up so high that she could not reach it.

Police Commissioner Chris Dawson said a video camera of the body of four police officers breaking into a house and a search warrant found the girl brought tears to her eyes.

Dawson did not specify what the girl went through.

"She was living the way you expected," Dawson said. “This has been a test. I will not go into detail, except to thank you that you are alive. ”

Dawson said "police work with dogs, stable" led to his discovery.

The disappearance had taken over the nation.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison thanked police for finding Cleo and supporting her family.

“What good news! Cleo Smith has been found and is safe and healthy at home, ”Morrison tweeted.

“Our prayers were answered,” added Morrison.
