Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar has found herself in a tough situation again, after an attack by President Donald Trump drew attention to her and prompted some to criticize her.

However, not everyone was so quick to support Trump’s position.

Some have come to the defense of Omar instead, including presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, who was quite critical of Trump.

Sanders specifically pointed out that Trump regularly resorts to racism and hatred, and that was something Omar refused to do, but it is something that should not paint her in a negative light in the first place.

Sanders tweeted: "[Omar] won’t back down to Trump’s racism and hate, and neither will we. The disgusting and dangerous attacks against her must end."

This was in response to Trump’s highly critical video which he published on Twitter.

The whole incident started with comments Omar made regarding the 9/11 attacks on the U.S. which Trump tried to twist and misrepresent in order to drive negativity towards the Muslim politician.

New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has also jumped in to defend Omar, and she has additionally expressed her gratitude towards Sanders for being on their side.

AOC wrote: "Thank you Sen. @BernieSanders for recognizing these attacks clearly for what they are."

Senator Elizabeth Warren also slammed the president on this issue.

She stated: "The President is inciting violence against a sitting Congresswoman — and an entire group of Americans based on their religion. It’s disgusting. It’s shameful. And any elected leader who refuses to condemn it shares responsibility for it."

AOC also thanked Warren for her words.

Trump himself has gone on with his typical comments, and it does not look like the president is going to tone down his attitude anytime soon.

Entirely, on the contrary, he has been gearing up his offensive attitude, something which many suspect is in anticipation of the upcoming 2020 election.

It is no secret that Trump has gathered a large following through his edgy attitude, although it is not clear if that is what the president is going to base his next election campaign on.

At this point though, reversing the trend certainly does not seem likely.

Are the attacks against Omar linked to her religion, yes or no?
