In a statement made by Joe Biden this week, it would seem the leading 2020 democratic presidential candidate has the stance that the US is supposed to provide health care for all individuals in the country “regardless of whether they are documented or undocumented.”
As he was fielding questions from media representatives during his campaigning in Los Angeles, Biden made the more than controversial statement. When asked point blank if he thought that illegal or undocumented aliens were entitled to receiving federal benefits such as Medicare or even Medicaid, Biden answered: “Look, I think that anyone who is in a situation where they are in need of health care, regardless of whether they are documented or undocumented, we have an obligation to see that they are cared for.”
The former vice president added that a significant number of those undocumented individuals in the United States are still here because they chose to overstay their visas. With these recent comments, many analysts feel that Biden will receive somewhat of a boost in the eyes of the progressive Democrats in the country. This being that, up until now, those very individuals have seen Biden’s candidacy as a massive step backward. With Senators Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren also running, many feel Biden will have to appeal to the progressives to get a leg up on his competition.
At the very same campaign stop in California that Biden made his statement on health care for all, regardless of citizenship, the hopeful chose to attack POTUS once again. Biden accused President Trump of using fear tactics in regards to the United States-Mexico border crisis, while at the same time not delivering solutions.
Biden feels that the current president is using the tactic of scaring the American people to the point that they think that the immigrants are coming by the hordes to overtake the country. He says that the manner in which President Trump is characterizing the situation to the American public is just simply wrong, and uncalled for.
He went on to say that he will be releasing his own plan on how to deal with the long-standing issues with the United States-Mexico border. The meat of his proposal is said to offer a way in which to quickly decide the merits of whether the individual in question, wanting to enter the country, is in fact qualified to enter in the first place.
So, what’s the verdict—you decide.
Will Biden attempting to appeal to the progressive Democrats give him the gravitas he needs?
