On Tuesday, Foreign ministers from China and Russia did a show of unity in their meeting in the face of criticism for human rights and against western sanctions. 

Wang Yi and Sergey Lavrov rejected external objections to their authoritarian political systems. They said they are working to advance global progress on climate change and the coronavirus pandemic.

On Monday, At their first meeting in Nanning, Lavrov and Wang blamed the United States for meddling in other countries' concerns. They urged it to return to Iran's nuclear deal, something that the new government of President Joe Biden has approached cautiously. Russia and China have close ties with Tehran.

The two diplomats reiterated that message Tuesday at a press conference, where Wang strongly criticized coordinated sanctions by the European Union, Britain, Canada, and the United States against Chinese officials for human rights violations in China's remote western region Xinjiang.

Wang said countries have to come together to oppose all kinds of unilateral sanctions. The international community will not take these measures. 

Lavrov said the sanctions have brought Russia and China closer together and accused the West of "imposing its rules on everyone else, something they believe should rule the world order."

In the joint assertion declared after the meeting, the two ministers stated that no country should force its government on others.
