On Thursday morning, Kensington Palace made the announcement that Meghan Markle, the 37-year-old Duchess of Sussex would now be the official patron of four different organizations, as an official representative of Britains royalty.

The four organizations that she was appointed patron to reflect her interest in the arts, access to education, support women and animal welfare.  Two of the organizations were passed down to Markle from Queen Elizabeth herself, as she begins to slowly but surely hand over some of her royal duties to the younger members of the royal family.  She has been doing this over the past few years, and Markle was the latest recipient of the duties the Queen originally performed.

The two organizations handed over to Markle from the Queen were the National Theater and The Association of Commonwealth Universities.  The previous member of the Suits series definitely has a vested interest in the arts and as such through becoming the patron of the National Theater hopes to move the arts into a more inclusive, diverse and national endeavor.

Markle has been outspoken since becoming the Dutchess of Sussex, having given multiple speeches about education as well as the need for such when it comes to women in developing nations.  She will also be working with the Commonwealth of Universities very closely and across all the fifty-three current Commonwealths countries.

Markles other patronages include Smart Works and Mayhew.  Smart Works is a program that helps long term unemployed and vulnerable women regain the required skills, confidence and tools to help them navigate successful job interviews.  With their return to employment, their lives will then be transformed for the better.  On the other hand, Mayhew works toward the betterment of both animals and humans as well as their communities in both London and internationally as well.

Kensington Palace has confirmed that Markle has segued relatively easily into her new duties and has been having private meetings with the four organizations she was assigned patron over for the last year.  She is currently scheduled to meet with Smart Works this week, with visits to the other three organizations to happen in coming weeks.

Meghan Markle is a former American actress, that was born and raised in Los Angeles, California.   She married Prince Harry in May, in a worldwide televised event, and is reportedly due to have the couples first child in the spring.

Will she be up the challenge of her new duties?
