The citizens of this great nation, the United States of America, bared witness to history in the making on Friday. President Donald Trump, the first US president in history to do so, attended the March For Life annual event. And as if that wasn't amazing enough, he spoke to the crowd, telling those in attendance that he believes "Every person is worth protecting."
The March for Life if a gathering in Washington, DC, where hundreds of thousands attend each year to speak out in opposition to abortion. In past years, the Vice President, Mike Pence, has been in attendance, as well as video messages sent by Trump to address those attendees of the rally. However, this is the first year that President Trump, or any president for that matter, made an effort to attend and give his address in person.
Speaking to the massive crowd of attendees present, Trump stated: "It is my profound honor to be the first president in history to attend the March for Life! We're here for a very simple reason—to defend the right of every child, born or unborn, to fulfill their God-given potential."
The president went on to add that: “Every life brings love into this word. Every person is worth protecting.”
Trump made clear his stance on abortion and mentioned in his speech several Democrats that have come out as pro-abortion. One in specific, Governor Ralph Northam of Virginia, stated that he felt mothers and doctors should have the choice to murder children even after they have already been born.
During an interview with Northam last year, he laid it all out as: “If a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen. The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother.”
Since his taking of the office in 2016, President Trump has implemented several policies that are geared towards pro-life. One such policy discontinued the use of taxpayer funds that were used for referrals for abortions under Title X.
One group that opted out of the Title X funding, due to the policy, was the national, well-known organization Planned Parenthood. The group chose to cuts their ties with the funding through Title X rather than take the route of discontinuing to refer women to have abortions.
Will this history-making event be overshadowed in the books by the ongoing impeachment trial of Trump?
