MacKenzie Scott, Jeff Bezos' ex-wife and one of the world's wealthiest women have married a Seattle science teacher, who has already stated that he intends to make the giveaway most of their fortune to charity.

Dan Jewett is a teacher at the private Lakeside School, announced the marriage on the Giving Pledge website, the movement created by Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffett to encourage billionaire philanthropy.

“In a stroke of happy coincidence, I am married to one of the most generous and kind people I know—and joining her in a commitment to pass on an enormous financial wealth to serve others,” Jewett wrote in a March 6 article on the pledge's website under Scott's page.

Jewett wrote in the letter that he has spent much of his life as a teacher and has never “sought to gather the kind of wealth required” for charitable pledges.

According to the Billionaires Index, Scott, is the world's 22nd richest person, with a net worth of $53.5 billion. She had been one of the most influential philanthropists of her generation since Bezos's divorce in 2019.

Scott gave away almost $6 billion last year, which is likely a milestone for a living human. The funding was also sent to local foundations and schools like historically Black colleges, which aren't the billionaire generosity beneficiaries.

Both Princeton University alumni, Ms Scott and Mr Bezos met while working at a hedge fund in New York. She co-founded Amazon in 1994 and is the author of two books. According to her Amazon author website, she now lives in Seattle with her four children and her partner, Dan.

Mr. Bezos was the world's wealthiest individual at the time of their 2019 divorce, after 25 years of marriage, with a stake in Amazon of more than 16 per cent. As part of their divorce deal, Ms Scott got 4% of Amazon's stock, though Mr. Bezos retained voting rights on those shares.

“Dan is such a great guy, and I am happy and excited for the both of them,” Bezos said via an Amazon spokesperson in a tweet. However, the marriage was first published in the Wall Street Journal.
