As many expected, the New Zealand terrorist responsible for the Christchurch shootings is the center of many conversations and is stirring up controversy as commenters attempt to pit people against each other.

The attacker has come out with a statement that conservative Candace Owens has played a significant role in influencing him and his actions, an idea that he described in his lengthy manifesto.

While many have called his writings a madman’s ramblings, some have attempted to at least dig deeper into them and figure out more about the killer’s motives.

Brenton Tarrant wrote: "Yes, the person that has influenced me above all was Candace Owens. Is there a particular person that radicalized you the most? Each time she spoke I was stunned by her insights and her own views helped push me further and further into the belief of violence over meekness. Though I will have to disavow some of her beliefs, the extreme actions she calls for me are too much, even for my tastes."

So far though, most reports indicate that there does not seem to be much substance in the writings to begin with.

Some have pointed out that the text seems written with the specific goal of instigating as much hate as possible, without making any actual attempt to follow a line of logic.

Many have condemned the attacks and have called for unity among people, despite the killer’s attempts to create a social divide across the world.

The recent announcement regarding the ban of semi-automatic weapons in New Zealand was pointed out by some as an example of his plan in motion.

At the same time, others have argued that observers are seeing some healthy discussion as a result of the ban.

Regardless, the world remains in shock over the attack, and many questions remain unanswered.

The fact that no attention seems to be paid to the other perpetrators involved in the attack has been confusing to some, although others have argued that this is the right way to go and that the leading killer’s name should not be repeated either.

Do you agree or disagree with those trying to link Owens to the tragedy?
