Although this past weekend proved a very stressful one for freshman Rep Ilhan Omar, having had her fellow Democrats call her to task for a series of anti-Semitic tweets made on her social media account, this is not the first time that such comments have been voiced by Omar directed at the nation of Israel.

After comments made on her Twitter account, stating that the Congress members who are pro-Israel are solely motivated by nothing but current as well as possible future funding from the AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee).  The statements made by Omar caused the Democrats, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi herself, to strongly urge Omar that she issue a much-needed apology, stating her use of "anti-Semitic tropes and prejudicial accusations about Isreal’s supporters." would not be tolerated.  Omar issued an apology, in theory, because after her so-called apology she felt the need to add “the problematic role of lobbyists in our politics.”

As mentioned before, this is not the first time that Omar has been involved in comments deemed highly controversial.  She has been known to be very outspoken ever since she began her career in activism, well before her current political one.  Before being elected into Congress, Omar exercised her activism in the state of Minnesota.  Without the political correctness of Congress, or any such elected office, she was able to set her sights on Isreal, using what many are convinced was an anti-Semitic trope.

In one such post on her Twitter account, dated November 16, 2012, she tweeted “Israel has hypnotized the world, may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel.”  When asked about these very comments just last month, Omar addressed the question by putting off the fact that at the time of the tweet, those were the only words that came to mind to express what was going on—specifically Israels’ November 2012 operation in Gaza against the Hamas.

Omar came under fire again in late last year, when she did a flip flop, following her election victory, on whether or not she supported the BDS (boycott, divestment, sanctions) that is a current movement against the Jewish state.  When campaigning in her home state, she spoke in front of a group of Jewish voters, giving the impression that she was against BDS, only to come out in firm support of BDA after her electoral victory.

Her most recent comments are a blatant smack in the face of Israel, as she has stated she "almost chuckles" when someone refers to the Jewish state as a democracy.

So, what’s the verdict—you decide.

Is American heading down a slippery slope with these types of politicians?
