The Avengers have suffered yet another snap—only this time around it is the snapping of the movie out of the number 1 spot at the box office for this past weekend.  The snap was issued by Keanu Reeves latest entry into his John Wick franchise, John Wick: Chapter 3—Parabellum.

The film reportedly made a very sizable box office showing on Friday, with an estimated take of $22.6 million.  The film played on a total of 3,850 screens for the weekend and is now estimated to come in with a massive opening weekend to the tune of $56 million.

If the estimated take does, in fact, pan out, that will make John Wick: Chapter 3 coming in at nearly double its previous installment, John Wick: Chapter 2, which had a decent opening weekend in itself at $30.4 million.  As a result, this would end up being the biggest opening weekend for the studio that produced the movie, Lionsgate, since their mega-franchise "The Hunger Games" way back in November of 2015.

Much as with the two predecessors, John Wick: Chapter 3 has received accolades from both the fans and the critics alike.  The film has received very strong marks with both a 88% Rotten Tomatoes score as well as an A- score on CinemaScore.  The audience was as expected for a vehicle starring the Gen X action legend Keanu Reeves.  The opening night demographics showed that the audience was comprised of older individuals, primarily with 64% being that of males, and 83% being those over the age of 25.

It is pretty much a given that Avengers will probably not stay number 1 for a fourth weekend in a row.  However, Avengers $30 million weekend did give it the boost it needed to bypass "Avatar" for the longest domestic theatrical run.  By the end of this past weekend, Avengers is estimated to have grossed a domestic total of $771 million, putting it in second place behind "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

Coming in third is “Detective Pikachu,” a product of Warner Brothers Studios.  It would appear that the release of John Wick: Chapter 3 created a somewhat splintering off of the movies potentially adult audience.  For its second weekend, Pikachu is estimated to only come in at $22 million, which is a drastic drop of 59% from its $54.3 million opening weekend.

So, what’s the verdict—you decide.

Has Avengers: Endgame seen its hay-day?  Will it now begin the downward box office spiral that all movies experience?
