Part of the bodies were found at the scene of the devastating Marshall Fire in Colorado, officials said Wednesday.
Investigators found "half of the remains of an adult" in the 5900 area of Marshall Road in Boulder County that is not covered, according to a news report from the Boulder County Sheriff's Office.
The Boulder County Coroner's office will identify the remains and determine the cause and manner of death, the sheriff's office said. NBC News reached the investigator's office for comment.
The search for the two missing persons began after the Marshall Fire, the most devastating wildfire to date, began on December 30.

The fire caused Gov. Jared Polis to announce an emergency in the area and evacuate tens of thousands of people as unusual flames, driven by winds passing through the areas at high speed. About 1,000 houses were destroyed, and at least 130 other buildings were destroyed by fire.
"This has consumed the length of the football field in seconds," Sheriff Joe Pelle told a news conference on December 30.
The sheriff's office said investigators were still working at the Marshall Road scene where part of the body was found.
Earlier, Pele said officials were looking for a man in the area. Meanwhile, the search for a missing woman at 1500 in South 76th Street in Superior is ongoing, according to the Associated Press.
As of Wednesday evening, Marshall Fire has occupied 6,026 hectares and was 100 percent occupied, according to the Boulder of Emergency Management office.
The Marshall Fire found gasoline in the foothills and in the vicinity of the eastern part of the Rocky Mountains, about 12 miles [20 km] from Denver. The fire is strong, driven by strong winds amidst the "recorded drought" in the region, say forecasters for the organization.
Snow on New Year's Eve helped put out the flames.
Pele on Monday said an investigation into the cause of the fire was "full and burning." The sheriff's office confirmed over the weekend that it had issued a search warrant for at least two items that had appeared to be on fire at the beginning of the fire.
President Joe Biden will visit Boulder County to see the damage to the Marshall Fire on Friday.
