The 22-year-old Saoirse Kennedy Hill, one of Robert and Ethel Kennedy's 35 grandchildren, passed away at the Kennedy's residence in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts, the Kennedy family confirmed in a statement Thursday night.

Barnstable police responded on Thursday to a call from a residence on Archant Avenue in Hyannis Port for a reported unattended death. The officers did not identify the victim and did not disclose any more details.

Later on Thursday, Brian Wright O'Connor, a spokesman for Saoirse Hill's uncle, former congressman Joseph P. Kennedy II, issued an official statement to announce the death of Saoirse Kennedy Hill.

According to internal information obtained from family members by The New York Times, the young student died from an apparent drug overdose. The Kennedy family did not comment on that and has not disclosed the cause of death publicly.

The 22-year-old Saoirse Hill was majored in Communications at Boston College. Boston College described the late Saoirse as a talented student who was on track to graduate in 2020.

She was also an activist and a spokeswoman for awareness of depression and mental health issues. Back in 2016, Saoirse bylined an article for the students' newspaper The Deerfield Scroll, admitting that she attempted suicide before her junior year at Boston College.

In her piece, she wrote that people should discuss freely the effects of depression, bi-polar disorders, and anxiety the same way they openly talk about cancer. Saoirse also pointed out that just because some illnesses are not outwardly visible, it did not mean people were not suffering internally.

In the family statement announcing her tragic passing, some close relatives described her as a passionate young person interested in human rights and women's empowerment. They also added she often volunteered in Mexico where she helped indigenous communities build schools. Her 91-year-old grandmother, Ethel Kennedy said that the world was a little less beautiful today.

Saoirse Hill was the daughter of Courtney Kennedy, the fifth child of Robert and Ethel Kennedy, and Paul Michael Hill, one of the four falsely convicted in the 1974 Irish Republican Army bombings of two pubs.

Her late grandfather, Robert Kennedy, was a former U.S. attorney general, who was assassinated as he sought the Democratic presidential nomination in 1968.

Saoirse's father, Paul Hill is also known as part of the ''Guildford Four,'' four Irish nationals who were unjustly convicted of a series of bombings in Northern Ireland connected to the Irish Republican Army (IRA). The four men were later found not to have any relationships with the IRA.

What do you think? Do you believe that the Kennedy-curse struck again?
