In an unprecedented move, two senior Joe Biden's presidential campaign officials sent a letter Sunday to all leading news channels nationwide to keep the Donald Trump's lawyer, Rudi Giuliani off-air.
According to Ted Johnson at Deadline, the letter was sent to presidents, anchors, and executive producers of leading TV networks including ABC, NBC, CNN, CBS, Fox News, and more.
Biden's aides Anita Dunn and Kate Bedingfield penned the letter listing a series of TV appearances in which Giuliani brought up debunked information about Biden.
Anita Dunn who used to serve as an acting White House communications director under Barack Obama, and Kate Bedingfield, Biden's deputy campaign manager, wrote that Giuliani was spreading 'false, conspiracy theories on behalf of Donald Trump.'
Bedingfield and Dunn stated that by giving him air time, the news outlets allow him to introduce 'desperate lies into the national conversation.'
Biden's aides also emphasized that Giuliani is not a public official and holds no public office to entitle him to give an opinion on the nation's airwaves.
The letter also suggested that a Biden representative should be entitled to equal time on each program that books Giuliani going forward.
Under US election law, it is not legal to seek help or gain electoral benefits from any foreign entity.
During the past weekend, Giuliani appeared on two of the most popular Sunday morning public affairs shows, 'This Week' on ABC and 'Face of Nation' on CBS. Next to that, he has also been a regular guest on Fox News, where he has been defending Trump and smearing Biden.
In his appearance on ABC's 'This Week' on Sunday, Trump's lawyer repeated claims that in 2016 the then vice-president Biden put pressure on Ukraine to fire its chief prosecutor because he was investigating corruption in a gas company Burisma, on whose board sat his son, Hunter Biden.
According to Washington Post opposed this information, proving that the investigation into Burisma was dormant by 2016. Some top officials in the Ukraine government also stated that no evidence of corruption related to Hunter Biden was found.
