The idea was made even more attractive to some by the suggestion that the organization would operate as an independent entity without any government interference.
However, it does not seem like the proposal was met with approval all across the board.
In fact, someone quite close to the couple -- the Queen herself -- has expressed her disapproval of the idea.
According to her, the two are not going to live on their own, away from the supervision of the royal family.
Instead, they are going to have a standard official living place, adequately staffed by the Palace.
The news was met with mixed responses. Some seem to agree with the Queen’s views towards preserving the current structure of the royal family and the internal organization of the country’s government at the highest levels.
A source said: "They wanted their household to be entirely independent of Buckingham Palace, but were told 'no'. There is an institutional structure that doesn’t allow that kind of independence. The feeling is that it’s good to have the Sussexes under the jurisdiction of Buckingham Palace, so they can’t just go off and do their own thing."
On the other hand, some have expressed their disappointment towards the Queen’s actions, claiming that the young couple should be given the freedom they crave for right now.
This is not the first time that the royal family has interfered in the affairs of its members, although this particular incident seems to be generating much stronger publicity towards the situation.
With the criticisms that some have expressed so far, it is not unlikely that observers might see a change in motions in the near future. The attention of many remains firmly fixed on the situation.
An insider explained: "They have always been different, they are very different characters. They drew great comfort from each other when their mother died, and as they’ve grown up together. But they need to be separate. Now Meghan has arrived; it is the right time to make that break."
Do you think the Queen is right or wrong for forcing the couple to change their plans?
