The US assures that it will be the members of NATO. They decide on the entry of Ukraine into the organization.

Pentagon spokesman John Kirby recalled that the entity's secretary-general, Jens Stoltenberg, made it clear that the alliance makes these kinds of decisions.

The Government of the United States insisted this Friday that the decision that Ukraine and Georgia join NATO if these countries wish, is something that the organization must resolve.

"Membership in NATO is a decision that NATO makes, " Pentagon spokesman John Kirby told a news conference in response to a question on whether Washington would agree to Ukraine and Georgia joining the organization.

Kirby recalled that the Secretary-General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, "has made it very clear that the alliance is the one that makes these kinds of decisions."

He stressed that US President Joe Biden has already stated that each sovereign country must determine who it is associated with and what degree it participates in organizations.

Russia today demanded that NATO withdraw the promises made to Ukraine and Georgia that they will be admitted to the Atlantic Alliance, since this means the advance of this military bloc to the east, one of the red lines marked by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In his recent telematics summit with Biden, Putin declared that his red line is the deployment of Western attack systems in Ukraine and warned about the growing approach of NATO's military infrastructure to Russia.

For this reason, he proposed legally binding security guarantees that, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry, will be presented for the next round of the dialogue on strategic stability between Russia and the United States.

This Friday, Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Riabkov revealed that the next round is expected to take place next January.

Biden said he hopes to announce a series of high-level meetings with his main allies in NATO and Russia to reduce the tension between the parties but prepares sanctions against this country in parallel if it decides to invade Ukraine.

Washington and Kyiv believe that Russia is preparing an incursion into Ukrainian territory that could take place in early 2022; it has deployed between 70,000 and 94,000 Russian soldiers on its border with the neighboring country, according to estimates by US and Ukrainian intelligence.

Kirby stressed on Friday that there are many Russian forces in the west of his country near the border with Ukraine, stretching to the north, east, and south, in what is the eastern end of the Ukrainian territory.

"We have not seen major changes as of today, but we have continued to see increases (of Russian troops) in recent days and weeks," said the spokesman.
