While wearing one of Trump's signature "Make America Great Again"—or MAGA—hats, a New York man alleges that a gang of approximately fifteen youths personally assaulted him.
The 42-year-old victim, Jahangir Turan, filed a report with NYPD law enforcement officers that stated he was heading to dinner, walking along Canal Street, when he found himself up against a large group of teenagers who were selling obscenities about President Trump. The incident, according to a report by WCBS, occurred approximately around 7 pm in the evening.
Turan stated that one of the teenagers, a girl, flipped his hat. Then like a flash, within five to eight seconds at most, he was pushed hard from the back, and his face proceeded to hit a scaffolding pole. Turan, a Manhattan art gallery owner, told the New York Daily News that as a result of the encounter, he was in fact diagnosed as having suffered an orbital floor fracture to the bone of his left eye.
The NYPD did confirm when contacted, that they are in the process of investigating the alleged incident and assault. However, nothing has been learned so far, as when the responding law enforcement officers arrived on the scene of the assault, the victim was unable to provide a description of his attackers. As a result, as of this writing, no arrests have been made.
Turan spoke with the Daily News saying: "It happened too quick. I didn't have time to think." He went on to state that when the officers arrived, they asked him if he could ID his assailants. It was then that Turan stated that he couldn't. Turan feels that the individual who pushed his face into the pole was pretty much a punk, showing off for the others that were with him.
Although the NYPD holds true to the statement they are investigating the assault, at least two sources within the police department have voiced their skepticism that the incident went down in the manner in with Turan stated. The skeptics feel that the injury appears it could have resulted from a fight that may have occurred between the victim and one other individual.
Nonetheless, Turan has stated his dissatisfaction with how the NYPD is handling the case and says he will not be wearing his MAGA hat in Manhattan again anytime soon. Turan went on to add that this is America, but it is dangerous at this current time to wear a hat like this in New York City. That's sad.
So, what's the verdict—you decide.
Will these types of incidents occur more and more often as we close in on the upcoming presidential election in 2020?
