The U.S. military has shot down a small drone that is believed to have threatened the U.S. military in southern Syria on Tuesday, just weeks after the area was hit by drones and rocket-propelled grenades.

Capt. Bill Urban, a U.S. spokesman Central Command, said two drones or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAS) were tracked into the airport around At Tanf Garrison on Tuesday evening. "While one of the UAS continues to sink deeper into the At Tanf Deconfliction Zone, it has been tested as a sign of hostile intent and shot," Urban said.

The second small drone turned and left the scene. It is not known if any drone was carrying explosives.

Urban said there were no reports of injuries or damage to the site.

The incident comes just weeks after At Tanf Garrison was attacked by a group of drones, some of which were full of explosives, followed by rocket-propelled grenades. No U.S. troops were present or wounded in the attack, but facilities were severely damaged, according to security officials.
